Christmas and New Year Party Lighting Ideas at Home
By TurboTraders India ·
The Diwali lights do not have to go back in the box. With a few changes they can carry your home right through Christmas and New Year. Here is how to give each celebration its own look.
Christmas: light the tree
Start at the top of the tree and wind the string down in a spiral, pushing it a little into the branches so the bulbs sit inside, not on the surface. As a rough guide, use about 10 to 12 m of lights for every 1 m of tree height for a full look.
Warm yellow gives the classic Christmas glow. Multicolour gives a fun, playful tree that children love.
Christmas: outline the house
If you have a balcony, a terrace or an independent house, outline the roof line, the windows and the gate. Red and green strings together look instantly Christmassy.
Christmas: the colourful bulb look
Big, colourful bulbs strung across a room or a porch give a cheerful, old-fashioned party feel.
New Year's Eve: build a party corner
Clear one corner of the living room or terrace as the dance floor. Switch off the main lights, and let a laser party light fill the ceiling and walls with points of light.
A mirror ball and a few strings of lights overhead complete the look.
New Year's Eve: music and the bar counter
A portable Bluetooth speaker keeps the music going, and a few bar accessories make the drinks counter look ready for guests. Wrap a string of lights along the front of the counter for a glowing bar.
A neon sign for the selfie wall
Set up a selfie wall with a neon sign. At midnight, everyone will want a photo there.
Party safety
- Keep cables taped down where people dance.
- Do not leave lights on through the night after the party.
- Keep all lights away from candles and sparklers.
